J. Maxwell Norman is a Jewish-American documentary and fine art photographer whose work focuses on arresting, evocative compositions of everyday encounters. Drawing inspiration from range of influences including Romanticism, Film Noir, American Realism, New Topographics, and photojournalism, his photos emphasize the inherent tension between interpretive and objective qualities of documenting light and setting. He looks to interrogate his own perspective creating art in an increasingly truth-averse and unstable world.
He lives in Minneapolis with his husband, Todd, and their dog, Alfredo.
